I’m getting my haircut tomorrow. The last time I got it cut was before my birthday. My birthday was in October. This is what I do: let my hair go for four or five months or so, start thinking about getting it cut, then finally unearth the salon’s number on a Monday, remember they aren’t open on Monday (is any salon open on Monday?) then get busy at work and call two weeks later, at which point it has now been at least six months since said last haircut.
And ususally at some point in the two month window of when I say “I should really get my hair cut” and I actually do get my haircut, I start to get really pissed off at my hair and entertain thoughts of chopping it off–pixie cuts or bobs. But I remember I like ponytails. Then I watch something like America’s Next Top Model makeover show and wonder about chopping it again. And I think about how I have had this long hair for years and maybe it’s time for something new. I get confused and don’t know what I want and just end up with a few inches off the bottom. Last time we added a big side-sweep for “bangs.”
So this time, I am readying myself and turning to you lovely internet folks. I’ll leave it to you–what should I do to my hair. Note: I’m not getting it colored. If it takes me six months to get a haircut, you know I will suck at maintaining a coloring. Well, I do anyway. Pictures welcome. As well as pop-culture references.
Yes, most salons are closed on Monday’s.
I would recommend something with layers to give you more volume, something to frame the face. I have no pop culture references. Heck, if you know your hair person well enough and have been going to him/her for some time, why not ask them what they would recommend. They know your hair best. My thought is stylists get annoyed with unreasonable customer requests, especially the ones where they know full well that hair cut or style won’t work on this person’s head, even though it worked for Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Alba, Cameron Diaz, etc.
I <3 the idea of donating your hair. I know Pantene accepts hair donations that are 8 inches…and Locks of Love needs to be 10. I JUST donated my hair, and it felt absolutely great
I was always afraid of losing my ponytail too…but then I started getting all emotional about little kids who were never able to have a pony tail and that’s all it took to convince me to donate. I’m sure whatever you do, it will turn out great!
I love the idea of you with shoulder-length hair. Add in a dose of layers, particularly around the face and I think you’d be one rockin’ chick (who wouldn’t look so bad 6 months down the road when it’s time for another cut).
I’m the same way (she says as she clips back the bad idea bangs she got talked into last time around). There’s something to be said for long hair that can all be easily tucked into a ponytail (sigh).
oh i SO do that. i got my hair cut above the shoulders in january… then immediatel let it grow out. i’m still in the “oh, i need to call the salon!!!” stage, will be for 2 more weeks i suspect..
oh this reminds me of our hair-day back in high school when we went to jenny for “friends” hair cuts!
Haha. You sound like me. Except my haircuts are usually more like 9 months apart. I think I’m going to start getting them more frequently, though. My last one was the first week of February. I think I’ll probably get another in the beginning of August, right before I move.
I’d give you advice, but really, I don’t know what to do with my own hair most of the time. I just keep mine long because it’s better for my career path if it is. That, and every time I see a picture of a celebrity with super long hair (like Miley Cyrus), I wish my hair were even longer than it is now.
I’m a classic case of grass-is-always greener. I’m rarely satisfied with my hair length/cut, usually wondering how it would look another way, yet I seldom act on it.
I second Nilsa’s suggestion for shoulder length hair with layers and maybe a side sweep, or at least short face-framing layers around the chin.
Good luck! Post pictures!
I enjoy the idea of a cut that hits around the collarbone. And I agree that layers are necessary. I need a haircut too…before the trip o’ fun!
Ooooh, I agree with Kendra.
i was going to suggest face-framing layers and bangs. i think you coudl rock that look easily, and still goes into a ponytail. collarbone length is good. another choice is to say to the stylist: don’t go shorter than x; i like ponytails. but do what you think is best. if you trust your stylist you w ill end up with a great ‘do. it’s better than micromanaging and they think of stuff you might not otherwise.
yes, salons are typically closed on mondays; sunday and monday are their weekends since saturdays are their busiest days.
Sooo… I’m dying to know!
What did you decide on? How did it turn out! I have my fingers crossed
Hey all, the haircut had to be postponed because my stylist was sick. So, Saturday now. Stay tuned!
I am exactly the same with making an appointment….always slides down the to-do list! Looking forward to seeing the new do!
