A sign that my Catholicism of old is definitely seeping away.
A few hours ago I got an email at work that started “Due to the holiday weekend…”
“What holiday?” I wondered. I quickly began to scan my mind for a hint. Since I work in finance my initial reaction was “Well MLK and President’s Day are over. I dunno.”
And as I began to ask the question out loud it dawned on me. Oh right. Easter. That most important holiday in the Catholic chuch, and pretty damn important to the other Christians of the world too.
If only my Catholic guilt would follow the knowledge of holidays out of my mind. That’d be nice.
Oh dear! Well, at least your lack of holiday knowledge is internal. And you choose to share it with others. Me? My boss constantly quizzes me on the Jewish holiday of the week (and there are almost that many to speak of). He always shakes his head when I don’t have any clue. Sigh.
Sister Jean will be very upset with you.
I never equate Easter to holidays. It always baffles me when someone talks about the three day weekend surrounding Easter. I’m such a heathen.
yeah i don’t think that the guilt ever leaves you if you’re catholic or raised catholic (i was). but i have since given up trying to avoid meat on fridays and all that. plus i’m living in sin, amongst a bunch of other things; according to them i’m going to hell anyway.
That is way too busy, on the plus side though you get a Holiday that you were not expecting. Enjoy the long weekend.

That’s ok. This morning the traffic guy was like “Traffic is light because of the holiday weekend” and I was like “…?…”
And then it dawned on me.
The thing that’s tricky about Easter is that it is always changing. I’m pretty sure last year it was “late;” in April. This year it creeped up super quick…
You know what I think is sad? My weather forecaster said there was a possibility for snow on Easter. Those two words just don’t belong in the same sentence together.
Stay warm!
And what’s with all these 3 day weekends everyone is getting out of the deal? I’m catholic! I work a normal office job… No 3 day weekend for ME!
Working at a bank or a school is KEY for getting all the good long weekends.
This is so funny!! I’ve been thinking Easter eggs for the last two weeks so no way could I have missed Easter – I don’t even celebrate it this time round either, as this year’s Orthodox Easter is at the end of April, but hey, chocolate Easter eggs are chocolate Easter eggs.
Easter eggs – that’s how I knew Easter was coming
Since I work for myself, I’m almost always caught off guard when someone tells me a long weekend is coming up or that nobody’s working on Monday. Once I stayed up the whole night on Sunday trying to finish an article to send to my editor on Monday morning, only to realize later that it was Memorial Day and she wasn’t coming into the office.
