I wanted to write about how the coconut got stuck in my tonsil. And I will, but today seems to warrant a bit of randomness. Not that I ever need an excuse for being random. Really, what I need is a better filter to avoid randomness in the future. But I digress–unsurprising really.
So, I’ll start with last night, when I attended a blogger meet-up. Nilsa sent me an evite a few weeks ago to an event a b lock from my house. How could I not go? There I met up with six other blogger ladies (including Nilsa) and D. That female-to-D ration didn’t go unnoted. Anyway, we talked, we drank, we ate, we got to know each other. It was interesting and refreshing to talk to people about blogging. Cause sometimes, non-bloggers don’t necessarily get it.
It was pretty interesting to see blogger in the 3-D world. And to talk about things like why we chose WordPress over Blogger. Or, who keeps the blog anonymous, why we use nicknames or what our friends and/or family think of the blogs. So, it was a good time and now, well I have more blogs to read. Which brings me to another point of randomness…
I’m slow on the blogger uptake. Despite the fact that I have been blogger for more than three years–sidenote: holy shit, seriously?–I only recently signed up for bloglines. Until then I would actually sit there and scroll through my sidebar and comments to visit blogs, and only a quarter of them had new posts. Which is fine; it’s not like I post on a regular basis. But damn was that tedious. So if you’ve noticed me commenting a bit more lately, you can thank bloglines for that. And the fact that I finally got the idea behind it.
I finally went to the doctor because I really felt like my cold should not stick around for 9 days. Plus Best Friend had strep and a sinus infection and living in the same apartment means maybe I did too. I do not have either of those things. I do have a Z Pak now. Which I am taking, but I still don’t feel 100%.
I’m off on Monday, but I have a ton of work to do this weekend. Not exactly what I would have wanted, but I would much rather slog through research curled up on my comfy couch, or at a Starbucks on my own time. Given my extra time, I am attempting to make soup tomorrow. As a novice cook, I would like to ask you all to wish me luck.
Have to run now, as Bluebird and I are going to see Juno. Yes, once again I’m a little slow. But Bluebird agreed to see it again, and I’m quite looking forward to it.
Why is wordpress better than blogger, Cheryl? Btw, D is my idol.
Yeah Cheryl – I’m so glad you were game for coming out to play. Wait a minute, didn’t I see you drink two martinis (plus that little freebie) before I left. Ummmm, last time I checked, Z packs and alcohol did not go hand in hand. Ahem! hahaha. Anyway, it was a great gathering – the first of many I am sure. And maybe next time the group will grow – oh my! Have a great weekend!
Thomas, I like the WordPress layouts better and when I switched it was a little more user-friendly. That said, I understand blogger has improved. Also, I was going for a fresh change with a brand new blog so I took it the distance and switched to wordpress.
Nilsa, that whole alcohol/Z pack thing occurred to me about halfway through the second martini, but at that point, what could I do?
It was lovely to meet you. I hope you recover from your illness quickly!
Movie on a Sunday afternoon sounds lovely! And Juno seems like the perfect choice for that.
I wish I can have a blogger get together with folks in my area. I’ll have to explore that possibility.
Is your blogger meeting going to become a regular occurrence?
the blogger meetups will definitely be a regular occurrence!
so nice to meet you, and you hid your sick well…i had no idea!
so great to meet you! hope you start feeling better (like d, I didn’t notice you were sick)!
um, also….we have the SAME skyline on our headers!
Aww! I’ve heard a few times already about this blogger meet-up- it sounds like it was a great success! I’m jealous of all you guys. I need to find a blogger who lives close so we can have those wordpress vs. blogger discussions. Oh, and typepad! Let’s not forget a discussion about typepad. I’ve heard good things about bloglines. I’m a google reader fan myself. Sometimes I wonder how I ever lived without it.
I had no idea you were sick. You hide it well! It was great meeting you. Sorry we didn’t have the chance to really talk much. I look forward to reading your blog and seeing you at other meet-ups! You’re lovely!
Took me a couple years to find Bloglines, you’re bloggin life just got so much better. Hope you’re feeling better soon!
Sounds like yall had fun. I don’t know if there’s any bloggers around these parts that I would want to meet up with.
Ok, I definitely know the post title is a Beatles song.
(sigh) Social bloggerness right in your own backyard? I’m jealous.
Cheers to Chicago and your meet up. I fully intend to crash the next one (I’m in Detroit…not too far away!)
You were sick on Saturday? I definitely didn’t notice. Feel better!
Also, it was lovely to meet you and I totally added your site to my bloglines.
Wow! Cool! I’ve never been to a blog-meet up before. It sounds like a LOT of fun. I’d crash, but being in Canada kind of makes it difficult!
What fun!
that is SO COOL that you guys did that! it makes me want to organize a dc meetup…
