And by you, I mean me. Yes, give a little bit of my love to me. “Why?” you may ask. Well cause in honor of Valentine’s Day (the Hallmark-iest holiday of them all) it’s self-love day.

I think it came just in time given my last post. And D is right, it’s time to stand up to myself, not just for myself. Step one is my participation in this self-love day.
The gist: Post a banner and a blog declaring February 14 as the day you love yourself. Then post one thing (I interject: only one?!) you like about yourself. Ask others to post something they like about you (Kendra: walking tours of Chicago are forthwith banned from this exercise!). Enjoy.
So, one thing I like about myself…I was going to say sense of humor, but that seemed too easy. So, I am going to say the fact that small things make me happy. I get excited about small things and find a lot of contentment with them. Witness the pure joy I displayed when buying myself a coffee maker, which amused the sales girl and other customers. Withness the excitement with which I put together my new bedding ensemble. Or, the fact that I find contentment in a cozy Sunday with a movie. It means I am thankful for a lot of things in my life, and I also think finding joy in small things helps set me up for a more positive outlook and a half-full glass. Because despite that last post, generally I see things in a good (though sometimes cynical) way.
It never hurts to add a dash of cynicism to your optimism! And it really is the small things that make the world go round – so it’s great you appreciate them!
What I love about you … is you’re coming out on Saturday night for a bloggers meet-up. Hooray – such fun! Clearly you are ok with taking risks (of coming out to meet a room of strangers) – even the little ones.
I like that you are true to yourself, or least it appears that way. You’re not swayed just because everyone else is doing it; you do what you want to do.
I love this post and wish I had seen it a day earlier or I would have done what you had written….I love that you can see the things within yourself that are worth loving becasue everything inside of you deserves to be loved..a lo!
there we go:) happy valentine’s day!
That’s my girl! Happy Self Love day!
I love that love words and hate the misuse of them as much as I do. Plus, you’re also cool.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Ahem. The fourth word of that sentence should be “YOU”.
this is a FABULOUS idea!!!!! i love it so much. well there are many things i love about my dear friend, cheryl. but i truly think the thing i love most is your heart. it is huge. you are such a genuine, authentic, kind, caring human being, and this makes you just a terrific friend. being around you (and knowing you throughout the years) has truly expanded my heart.
and the other thing i love most about you – and this isn’t the easy way out because it’s totally true – is your sense of humor. you crack me up ALWAYS!!! i have shared sooo many laughs with you and i can’t wait to share many more (and i know this one was at my own expense, but i just have to say it because i’m giggling about it to myself right now: ‘cheryl … i don’t eat red meat. i only eat brown meat’!!!!!)
How do I love my friend Cheryl? Let me count the ways…
Is thoughtful and caring.
1) Excellent shopping partner at Coach.
2) Always has sage dating advice.
3) Prettiest elephant I know.
4) Lover of good vodka.
5) Makes me laugh via gchat during bad days.
6) Is always up for trips to Vegas…even when we can’t pull it off.
7) Is a smartass to the Nth degree.
9) Will listen to Common on repeat as many times as I will while on a mountain drive.
10) Appreciates wonderful sushi restaurants.
Oh I could go on and on. Never in my wildest dreams did I think when I started my blog that I would make real-life friends from it. But now we’re jumping on planes to wreak havoc on our respective cities. Can’t wait for the next adventure…
XOXO
not sure why #8 turned into a smiley with shades…while i enjoy it, it was not intentional. of course, now it looks like i was saying you were cool, thoughtful and caring…which is also true. so it actually works quite nicely.
i should stop typing.
i’m going to go now.
Awesome stuff, although I have to admit, at first glance “Self love day” made me giggle.
Hope that you had a great day.
I have to say that your blog is one of the first I read in the morning.
PS – i recognize the song from the post title, but i don’t know who sings it or what it’s called.
exactly; happy v day!!
Love the blog. And yes shouldn’t V Day be more about “me” and less about “we” especially for us single people?
I love your outlook on life: You always see the humor in a situation. It seems to spring from a wonderful combination of optimism and skepticism/smarts. You are sunny, quick-witted and clever.
I’m keeping this succinct.
What I like about you: You’re charming.
What I like about me: I have the good fortune to stumble on a charming blogger like you.
